Roy Scoggins

Roy Lee Scoggins, 67, born August 20, 1942 went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday June 24, 2010. Visitation will be Monday 6-8pm and funeral services will be held Tuesday, 4:30pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana with Brother Lain Teel officiating. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove. He was born in El Paso to Ira Russell and Vera Mae Scoggins and resided in Corsicana. Joined the military in 1961 as a aircraft mechanic, serving most of his military career in Germany. Married wife, Laverne Hester Scoggins on October 29, 1966, his love, friend and companion, whom he shared his everything with for almost 44 years. In 1971 he totally gave his life to the Lord and the Lords business. He took God seriously and made it a point to spread the love that he had recieved, never to judge or criticize, but always to love and accept anyone he met. He served as a deacon in various churches were he was currently serving as chair member of deacons at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Corsicana, as well as led singing, sunday school teacher along with various other leadership positions throughout his Christian life. Gods bussiness was his heart and priority in his life. He was a machinist at various companies for the past 41 years. His latest employer was Congress Drivers in Ennis where he shared so many stories of the wonderful people that he worked with. As many will say he was a great man, mentor, husband, father, relative and friend who be greatly missed. He made his mark on many people's life and would love for everyone to celebrate with him as he now walks the streets of gold and singing and praising and worshiping his heavenly father. He is survived by his wife, Laverne Hester Scoggins of Corsicana; sons, Roy Glen Scoggins and wife Michelle of Corsicana, James T. Scoggins of White Hall, Arkansas; Roger Dale Scoggins and wife Cynthia of Corsicana; grandchildren, Jeffrey K. Scoggins, Cody Scoggins, Wesley Scoggins, Courtney Scoggins, Ashton Scoggins, Candace Scoggins and Jessica Scoggins; mother, Vera Mae Dixon; brother, Jessie Glen Scoggins both of Corsicana; sisters, Billie Grounds and husband James of Bellville, Betty Morton and husband Gerald of Dresden, Connie Morton and her husband Percy of Dresden and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved. He is preceded in death by his father, Ira Russell Scoggins; sisters, Ora Lee Boen and Shirley Ann Scoggins; brothers, James Russell Scoggins and Troy Wayne Scoggins.
