Purna Lee Dixon

Obituary - Purna Lee Cutbirth Dixon Purna Lee Cutbirth Dixon, 87, died peacefully surrounded by her children on February 11, 2015 at her home in Frost, Texas. Purna Lee was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on Oct. 22, 1927 to John Aubrey Cutbirth and Doris Nadine Douglas Cutbirth. She had one sister Patsy Ruth Cutbirth Mcdonald Wellman who preceded her in death. Purna Lee graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1945 and attended Hardin College (now Midwestern State University). She married the love of her life, William B. Dixon (Billy) on July 14, 1947 in Wichita Falls, Tx. They were married fifty nine years before his death in 2007. She missed him every day and spoke often of going home to be with him again. She was a devoted housewife, loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Laura Elizabeth (Betsy) Hansbrough and her husband Dennis of Kansas City, Mo., William B. Dixon, Jr and wife Karen of Bryan, Tx John Robert Dixon and wife Lee of Hingham, Mass. Carol Ann Erwin and husband Roy of Sanger, Tx, and Milly Ann Vickery and husband Bobby of Frost, Tx. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Emily Hansbrough and fiancé Denny Quinn, William B. Dixon III (Ben), Andrew Hansbrough, Zachary B. Dixon, Sarah Erwin Seidel and husband Vic, Molly Erwin Butler and husband Kirk, Margaret Hansbrough, Caitlin Dixon, Charley Erwin and wife Ana, Margaret Dixon, Mary Vickery Verett and husband Taylor, and Jesse Vickery. She also had three great-grand children, Atticus Seidel, Grace Seidel and Cora Quinn. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family lived in Wichita Falls, Cheyenne Wyoming, Leesville La., Grapevine, Tx, Carthage, Tx, Tyler, Tx and finally she moved to Frost, Tx when she was diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. She and Bill traveled extensively with his job and she was able to make the trip of a lifetime to Europe. She enjoyed traveling and especially loved to accompany her husband in his work travels. Purna Lee enjoyed all kinds of music and passed that love down to her children. She loved reading and had an extensive library in her home. She treasured each and every book she owned. She was a seamstress and also enjoyed embroidery and quilting. She had many treasured friendships and she was a true and faithful friend herself. She encouraged her husband in his hobbies and passed the love of reading to her children. She had deep and abiding faith in God. She loved her family, friends, the Aggies, and she found such pleasure and beauty from the smallest things. She was the moral compass that gently and subtly brought our family back to center. She was a formerly a member of the Wichita Falls Junior Forum. She was a former member of First Christian Church in Wichita Falls and was presently a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Tyler, Tx, She was also a member of various garden clubs, East Texas Medical Center Auxillary, and Highland Presbyterian Church Choir. She is preceded in death by her husband William B. Dixon, her parents John and Doris Cutbirth and her sister, Patsy Ruth Wellman. Visitation will be held at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana, Texas on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at City Cemetery in College Station, Texas on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bob Bray officiating. Pallbearers will be Ben Dixon, Zac Dixon, Andrew Hansbrough, Jesse Vickery, Taylor Verett, and Vic Seidel.
