Miriam Uywan Mar

Miriam and John Mar, of Corsicana, Texas, passed away on June 6 and June 5, 2026, respectively. Their story, which began as high school sweethearts in the beautiful islands of Yap, FSM, was a testament to enduring love, resilience, and the power of a shared journey. Miriam first traveled to the United States in 1981 to pursue her education at Navarro College. After a time, she returned to Yap, and in 1988, she and John embarked on a new chapter together, moving to Corsicana, Texas. They built a life defined by hard work and devotion to their family. John was a dedicated provider, known for his work at Kmart Warehouse, Home Depot Warehouse, and Pactiv. Miriam was a woman of many talents, contributing her hard work to Adams’s Hat Factory, Russell Stover, AHS, and JJ’s Cut Rate Beverages. Their life together was grounded in deep faith. Both Miriam and John were active members of the Freedom Life Church in Corsicana, where they were both baptized in July 2022, marking a cherished milestone in their spiritual journey. Their household was built on love, highlighted by the pride they took in raising their son and the immense joy they found in their grandchildren. Whether they were spending time at the local game room, enjoying a quiet day of gardening, or sharing moments with family, they were rarely apart. Miriam’s courage as a breast cancer survivor—beating the disease in 2020—and John’s gentle spirit and love for fishing were just two reflections of the strength and heart they brought to every day. They leave behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and an unbreakable bond that began in their youth and lasted a lifetime. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John Wolbuw, Emmanuel Yungug; sisters Lourdes Rutingin, Emma Yirin, Andrea Maayub; and cousin Hyginus Gathrang. She is survived by her brothers John Gilsowuth, Gregory Faimaw, Edmund Gorong, and Joseph Fathal. John was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Mar. He is survived by his mother, Francisca Luchuu; brothers, Francis Gilmar, Peter Lubwey (and wife Marcela); sister, Adelaide Mitrad; son Jerquin Gamamit (and wife Miuleen); and grandchildren Kellen, Kaika, kaiLueha, Kaileo. They are both survived by their son, Jonathon Mar (and wife Bethany), and their beloved grandchildren, John, Jaxson, Jensen, and Leilani.
