Michael Bates

Michael Eugene Bates went to be with the Lord Jan. 6, 2006, at the age 45. He was born May 29, 1960. Michael was a fighter through his illness and was known to all as our "Hero". He loved his children very much and was especially proud of his new grandbaby. Michael was the strength that brought his family together and always looked forward to celebrations with them on special occasions. Michael worked for the City Environmental Services of Corsicana from 1986 through 1999 until he took retirement due to his disability and then enjoyed his cows and tractor and spending time with his family and friends. He also had many hobbies: hunting, fishing, gardening, cows, tractors, and guitars that he greatly enjoyed. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Chet Brake officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Robinson, Marty Bruton, Ronny Woodall, Ken Willams, Buddy Richards, Greg Eddins and Kenny Kennemore. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and nieces. He is survived by his wife, Paula Bates of Pursley; son, Michael Brandon Bates and wife Kristin of Katy; daughter, Brianna Alice Bates of Pursley; one grandchild, Hannah Marie Bates of Katy; mother, Evelyn Hoover and special friend Curtis McKinney of Corsicana; father, Bill Bates and wife Beverly of Corsicana; stepfather, Ken Willlams of Kerens; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Winford Robinson of Tyler; brothers, Mark Bates of Corsicana, Jeffery Williams of Carrollton, and Bruce Bates and wife Leigh of Corsicana; sisters, Debbie Carlson and husband John of Pflugerville, Debra Payne and husband Jim of Mansfield, Darla Talley and husband Mike of Corsicana, and Belinda Curry and husband Chris of Corsicana; sister-in-law and husband, Dawn and Randy Clay of Pursley; nephews and nieces, Jennifer Carlson, John Carlson Jr. and wife Liz Anne, Morgan Talley, Lauren Payne, Brody Clay, Gage Curry, Austin Payne, Macee Curry, Logan Bates, Blaire Bates, Bree Bates, Kristen Talley, and Jana Villacci; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Harley Carlson, Ashton Carlson, Keylee Carlson and Kasey Carlson.
