Martha Weempe

Martha Lynn Kirkland Weempe went to be with her Lord on Januany 3, 2010. She fought a brave and courageous battle following surgery for 3 months, always surrounded by loving family, friends and Church family. She celebrated her 70th birthday in the hospital. Martha was born on October 15, 1939 to William Wilson and Bootsie Lester Kirkland. She graduated from Axtell High School in 1957. On August 31, 1957 she married her high school sweetheart Howard Weempe. Three children blessed this union. They were reared in a Christian home full of joy and love for each other. The happy couple celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary in 2007 with their family and many friends. After moving to Corsicana 24 years ago, Martha became involved with real estate, first as a secretary and then as an Agent after earning her license. She approached her job as Realtor with a cheerful smile treating all with integrity and assisting each to find the ideal home. She was named Outstanding Real Estate Agent, Million Dollar Sales Associate and Realtor of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. She was a lifetime member of the Newcomers Club and active member and past president of American Business Womens Association. Martha and Howard joined Northside Baptist Church soon after moving to Corsicana. She was an active member of the choir, enjoying singing and the fellowship of members. She devoted her time to a number of church committees through the years. Martha was a loving caregiver to both her mother in law and her mother. She was a familiar face in the assisted living and nursing home making sure Bootsie received the best of care. Many lives were touched by her friendly smile and compassion for others. One of the great joys of Marthas life was attending sporting and special events for her children, especially the grandchildren who referred to her as Nana. She and Howard strongly supported all family members with their love and presence. Martha is survived by her husband Howard Weempe, children William Weempe and wife Cheryl of Rockport, Mike Weempe of Richland, and Debra Killingsworth and husband Brian of Mildred. Seven grandchildren, J.T. Weempe and wife Amanda of Victoria, Bryce Weempe and wife Matina of Victoria, Nicole Marvel and husband Brad of Rockport, David Weempe of Waco, Cara Weempe of College Station, Bret and Blake Killingsworth of Mildred and four great grandchildren, Connor and Madisyn Weempe, Rhy and Sadee Marvel, sister Sandra Shelton of McKinney, brother Bill Kirkland and wife Kay of Academy, and a host of loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Bootsie Kirkland. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 7th from 6 to 8 pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 1pm Friday January 8th at Northside Baptist Church. Interment in Billington Cemetery, McLennan County. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Building Fund of Northside Baptist Church.
