Madelyn A. Glasgow

Madelyn Glasgow, 85, of Austin, formerly of Corsicana, died tragically in a head-on collision near Spicewood on New Year's Day, 2016. She was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, but moved to Corsicana, Texas when she married James L. Glasgow in 1949. They were the owners of James Glasgow Exxon station until his death in 1964. She was widowed at 34 and raised three young daughters. She was very active at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and James L. Collins Catholic School where her girls attended school. She worked for many years as the executive director of Camp Fire Girls in Corsicana, including running Camp Wanica each summer. In 1988 she moved to Austin and has lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Dale Baker, ever since. She worked at Sears in Austin and was a hard-working, loyal employee until her retirement in 2013 at age 83. She always treasured her years at Sears and the wonderful friends she met there. She continued to meet some of her co-workers for lunch once a month until her death. She loved dancing and her wonderful group of friends at the South Austin Senior Citizen's Center, playing cards and dominoes, but mostly being with her family. She was fortunate to have all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in the Austin area. She is survived by Mary Ann and Dale Baker, Susan Beets, and Tricia and Steve Dickerson, all of Austin; eight grandchildren: Jeff (Kristin) Baker, James (Ashley) Baker, Jennifer Jackson, Stephen (Amanda) Dickerson, Stacey (Brent) Lamonds, Thomas Dickerson, Caron (Keith) Burris, Tim (Leah) Beets; 19 great-grandchildren: Sadie and Alexa Baker, Dallen, Grayson, and Everly Baker, Clay, Chrys, Kaycee, and Caleb Jackson, Kyli and Kailyn Dickerson, Khristyon Musick, Aaron Walters, Marcus Lamonds, Courtney, Emma, and Maddie Burris, Sam and Charlie Beets. She is also survived by sisters Joyce Dorsey, Elizabeth Bass, and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lorraine Pinder, her in-laws James Thomas and Iva Rena Glasgow, and her husband James Glasgow. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2015 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road, with Father Pat Coakley officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 with Deacon Lewis Palos officiating. There will be a short visitation at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home from 11 to 12 p.m. before the service at the cemetery.
