Howard Weempe

Howard McClinton Weempe, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, passed away at his residence on May 6, 2024, at the age of 87. Howard was born on April 16, 1937, in Billington, Texas, to Robert Lee and Carmen Weempe. Howard's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love. He is survived by his children: William Weempe and wife Cheryl, Mike Weempe and wife Tammy, Debra Killingsworth and husband Brian. He leaves behind his beloved sister, Mary Wilson, and her husband Bill and his sister, Nora Kirkland. Howard's legacy extends to his cherished grandchildren: JT Weempe, Bryce Weempe and wife Matina, Nicole Burdick and husband Clifton, David Weempe and wife Kasey, Cara Floyd and husband Shelby, and Bret Killingsworth. He was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren: Connor Weempe, Madisyn Weempe, Rhy Marvel, Sadee Marvel, Liam Burdick, Blair Weempe, Miles Weempe, Quade Floyd, Grayson Weempe, and Hank Floyd. Howard was preceded in death by the love of his life, Martha Weempe, his parents, Robert Lee and Carmen Weempe, and his siblings: Bob Weempe, Frank Weempe, Ray Weempe, and Viola Looney. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ray Kirkland, and grandson, Blake Killingsworth. Howard found joy in the simplicity of life's pleasures. He was passionate about ranching, finding solace and purpose in the open spaces and rolling pastures. He took pride in caring for his land, feeding his fish and cows, enjoying the outdoors on his side-by-side, and keeping up with rodeos on the cowboy channel. Howard had a natural talent for fixing things and was known as a jack of all trades. Above all, Howard's greatest joy came from his family. He loved and cherished each moment spent with them, and he took immense pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored dearly. Howard's unwavering faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both triumphs and trials. Visitation to honor Howard's life will be held at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 6-8pm. Funeral services will take place at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 10am, with Pastor Daniel Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Billington Cemetery in Axtell, Texas. Pallbearers will be David Weempe, Shelby Floyd, Bryce Weempe, JT Weempe, Clifton Burdick, and Bret Killingsworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Kirkland, Bob White, and Hance Spencer. Howard will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful friend. His legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
