Hazel Colleen DuBose

Hazel Colleen (Smith) Dubose passed away July 6th peacefully surrounded by her daughters at Heritage Oaks Nursing Home. She was born December 4, 1924, to Edward Chaffee Smith and Alta Frances (Cobb) Smith in Hominy, OK. The family moved to Kilgore, TX when she was 5 yrs old where she grew up and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1942. She moved to Eureka, TX in 1948 where she raised her children, Charles, Karen and Kathy. Colleen worked many years at Medical Arts Clinic, Memorial Hospital and Navarro Regional Hospital. She worked very hard, working 2 jobs for many of her adult years and working the switchboard at Navarro Regional up into her 80’s. Known as Nana to the grandkids and many around the community, could be seen driving around town at a high rate of speed. She attended grandchildren events and family functions until her late 90’s. Always the protector of the family she had to know how and where everybody was. There was never a question of her love for all of her family. Nana was truly an amazing woman cut from a different mold and had a mind as sharp as a tack. She will be truly missed by many. Colleen was a Christian lady and knew where her home was; she had long waited for her heavenly father to take her home. Greeting her in heaven were her parents, son Charles Dubose and son-in-law Lynn Bottoms. Colleen is survived by daughters, Karen Bottoms and Kathy Peek and husband Blane; grandchildren, Jason Bottoms and wife Darla, Amy Hill, Kelli Athas, and Chesley Belk and husband Adam. Great grandchildren, Brendan Hopkins, Raeleigh Lang and husband David, Connor Hill and wife Lauren, Andrew Hill, Preslie Bednarski, Colten Athas, Kolt Bottoms, Reeves Belk, Brody Belk and Kessler Belk. Great great grandchildren Brynlee Hill, Bradi Hill, Hazel Hill, Blaxelyn Hopkins, DJ Lang and Marshall Lang. The family would like to thank The Village at Heritage Oaks for their care for our loved one. We also would like to recognize Lyn Ferguson for always being there for our mother and nana. Also, a very special thank you to Debbie Dillingham for all the love and care. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8th from 11:30-12:30 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Graveside Service following at 1:00pm at Eureka Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Bottoms, Blane Peek, Kolt Bottoms, Brendan Hopkins, Connor Hill, Andrew Hill, Van Bottoms, Jarod Bottoms and Kevin Hinshaw.
