Harold Grayson Allen, 86, of Streetman, Texas passed away Friday March 11, 2005 at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield, Texas. Mr. Allen was born September 3, 1918 to S.H. (Stump) Allen and Ila Glass Allen in Streetman. Visitation will be held Sunday March 13, 2005 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Fairfield from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday March 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Streetman with Rev. Grayson Glass and Rev. Wayne Mahoney officiating. Burial will follow a St. Elmo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews: Jimmy Allen, Tony Allen, David Allen, Randall Strader, Connie Skaggs, Terry Huggins, Tommy Allen, Bill Petty, Steve Allen, David Vaughan, Dennis Wodtke, Robert Martin, Brett Skaggs, Don Boswell, Barry Allen, and Mike Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Streetman Domino Club. Survivors include hi wife Geraldine Allen of Steetman. Son and daughter-in-law Larry J. and Pat Allen of Streetman. Brothers and their wives; Bill and Chloe Allen of Montgomery and Thomas and Blanch Allen of Fairfield. Sister-in-law Jackie Allen of Lumberton, Tx. Grandchildren: Joseph and DuAnne Allen of Fairfield, W. Dean Allen of Streetman, and Donna Allen of Beaumont, Tx. Great Grandchildren: Nikki and Roman Osborn, Joshua and Lindsey Allen, Shaun and Miranda Allen, and Ashley Allen. Three great great grandchildren; Cynthia and Cecilia Osborn and Cameran Allen. Number of Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents J.H. (Stump) Allen and Ila Glass Allen. Son Dean Allen in 1992. Two brothers Kenneth and Bobby Allen. He was the oldst of five sons, leaving home at an early age, he worked in various jobs including agriculture, cooking and as a waiter. He married Geraldine Skaggs in Matador, Tx in 1939, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and returned to Matador, Tx going into the grocery business with his father-in-law V.J. Skaggs. He later owned his own store in Flomot, Texas. Due to health problems they moved to Springhill, Arkansas in 1951 and began producing chickens as a hobby. This became a fulltime career lasting until his retirement in Bryan, Texas in 1980. During that time he was instrumental in establishing commercial poultry and egg programs in Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas. After his retirement he managed to stay busy working for his brother Thomas driving a tractor and shredder in the Freestone County area, and playing dominos with old friends in Streetman. He liked country music and particularly Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, with his lifelong favorite song being "Faded Love". He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
