Marlene Shows Morgan Frances Marlene Shows Morgan, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on January 12, 2015 in Corsicana, Texas. Marlene, as she was known to by her friends will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous nature and loving ways. Always the first to volunteer she was a devoted volunteer for many Navarro County organizations. Marlene was a proud graduate of Emhouse High School Class of 1957. She was active in basketball, 4-H, and livestock showing. She was a 4-H Gold-Star recipient and earned a trip to New York as part of the honor. For their High School graduation trip, Marlene and her classmates traveled to Cuba for a life time memory. After high school graduation Marlene proudly served as a Navarro College Seniorita making lifelong friends through Navarro. Marlene was married to Thomas Wayne Morgan for 55 years before his death in May 2014. Marlene’s love for her family and devotion was constant in her loyal participation of all her children and grandchildren’s activities. She rarely missed an activity and was there to cheer on her grandchildren from softball games to band concerts. Marlene also served leadership roles in PTA and the Campfire Organization. Marlene was a 40 year volunteer for the extension service serving on boards and working with Navarro County 4-H youth and older citizens. She earned the honor of Navarro County Outstanding Older Texan Award. Marlene was a devoted volunteer for First United Methodist Church serving on various church boards and as UMW officer in many local, district, and conference capacities. She was a faithful member welcoming and encouraging participation in the church activities. In Marlene’s later years she spent many hours providing a ministry of flowers for FUMC. She loved working with flowers delivering bouquets to church members and friends in the nursing homes of Corsicana. She also was a committed volunteer calling BINGO for the residents for over ten years. Marlene was born October 28, 1938 in Corsicana, TX. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Corsicana, TX. She is survived by children Karen Morgan Vandiver and husband Kerry of Ennis, Donna Morgan Jackson and husband Matt of Emhouse, Steve Thomas Morgan and wife Tiffany of Emhouse. Beloved grandchildren, Courtney Vandiver, Chase Vandiver, Chelsea Vandiver, Brittney Jackson, Parker Jackson, Jared Morgan, Sean Morgan, Austin Morgan and Hunter Morgan. She is survived by brother Dr. David Shows and wife Barbara of Nacogdoches. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws Wilma Morgan of Corsicana, and Barbara Bailey and husband Larry of Rice and one brother-in-law Jerry Morgan and wife Shirley of Corsicana, TX. She is survived by brother-in-laws Edgar Montgomery of Corsicana, and numerous friends, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Thomas Wayne Morgan, parents Marvin and Elizabeth Shows, in-laws Thomas Mark and Oneta Morgan, nephew Mark Sparkman and sister-in-law Nancy Montgomery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, Jan 15, 2015 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 16, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Alexander and Rev. Gary Turner officiating. Private family burial will follow at family cemetery, Triple Creek Cemetery located in Emhouse, TX on land which has been in the family for over 140 years. Pallbearers will be Mark Shows, Lee Montgomery, Scott Montgomery, Karl Sparkman, Paul Bailey, and Ricky Morgan. Honorary Pallbearers are the Friendship Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church and Friendship Club Members of Emhouse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church 320 North 15th Street Corsicana, Texas 75110.
