Donald Stubblefield

Donald L. Stubblefield, a resident of St. Elmo Texas lost his long and couragous battle with cancer and went home to be with the Lord on October 7, 2008. He was born April 28, 1937 to Lois and Cecil Stubblefield at home on their farm in Frost Texas. Donald grew up in Frost attending Frost schools graduating in 1955. In December 1955 after the crops were in Donald joined the USAF, Frost was never home again but he always cherished his memories of his small hometown. While Donald was in the AF stationed in Denver Colorado he met Carole "Susie" Jeffries and they were married December 27, 1957. This marriage was blessed with three children, a son Donald W., a daughter Shelly and another son Terry. The family made their home in Irving Texas for 25 years. Donald truly enjoyed his family and was an active participant in his childrens activities, sports, motorcycle racing, high school rodeo as well a being an active Irving YMCA family. Donals was employed at Murdock Machinary and Engineering of Irving Texas in the aerospace industry for 30 years, he felt fortunate to have a career he enjoyed that was fulfilling and challening. "Stubb" as he was known to his co workers had many friends there that he enjoyed sharing good times with. Donald never forgot friends from Frost and his years in the AF and considered old friends and new friends a true blessing from God. Upon retirement Donald and Carole moved to St. Elmo on Richland Chambers Lake where he enjoyed gardening and fishing. Donald found a new life when he and Carole joined Lakeside UMC. he found joy in helping build the present day church building and really found meaning to life working with an organization at church "Carpenters for Christ". Donald loved God, the church and his church family. He will be missed by the friends he made throughout life and by his extended family, he really enjoyed good times in the great outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing with friends and family, his life was a life well lived. He is surved by wife of 50 1/2 years "Susie", his son Donald W. of Hurst Texas, his son Terry and fiance Elene of Anchorage Alaska, a grandson Travis Stevens and wife Natasha and a great granddaughter Ani Lee Stevens of Austin Texas, sister Neva and husband W. M. Perry of Seagoville Texas. He also leaves behind sisters in law and brothers in law, nieces and nephews he loved very much. Donald is preceded in death by his parents Lois and Cecel Stubblefield, brother Melva R. Stubblefield, sister Sylvia Hunter, a grandson Todd E. Stevens and his beautiful daughter Shelly S. Stevens. Visitation will be 6-8pm Friday October 10, 2008 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 10am Saturday October 11, 2008 at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Rev. Sandra Hippman officiating. Burial will follow at Frost Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Curtis W. Parsons, Gary A. Parsons, Robert D. Parsons, Cecil Perry, Robert Perry, Jeffery Hunter. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society in care of Freestone County Relay for Life.
