Dennis Glen Whitaker

Dennis Glen Whitaker, age 66, of Dew, Texas, went to heaven on February 5, 2024. Dennis was born on September 28, 1957, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Charles and Wanda Whitaker. He grew up in Bastrop, Louisiana where he learned his love for the outdoors. He spent lots of time on the bayou, fishing and hunting. After graduating from Bastrop High School in 1975, he went on to play football for Louisiana Tech University. After leaving Tech, he lived in Bastrop for a few years where both of his girls were born. He moved to Natchez, Mississippi where he raised his girls, which he would say was his greatest accomplishment. In 1998, he moved to Texas for work, where he met the love his life, Mary Lou. This is where he spent the last 26 years of his life and welcomed all 11 grandkids. Dennis loved Jesus and made it his mission to tell you what the Bible said whether you wanted to hear it or not. He loved and was very proud of his family. He was an amazing husband, dad, and Paw. He would dance with you and was always singing. He loved to tell stories, and his favorites always included himself, kids and grandkids. He was also full of witty sayings (Pawisms) that have been passed down through kids and grandkids. He was also very proud of his knife and gun collection, which he was always giving away. He never met a stranger and treated everyone like family. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Wanda Whitaker and his brother, Richard Whitaker. He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Lou (who he said was meaner than a snake). Dennis and Mary Lou combined their families, and they have: daughter and son-in-law Samantha and Todd Fielder; daughter and son-in-law Haley and Mile Jones; sons: Terry Hagen, Brandon Hagen, and Chris Hagen. He is also survived by his sister, La Jane Vinson and husband Dardy, brother Mark Whitaker and wife Becky. He has 11 grandchildren: Chandler, Abby, Madelyn, Weston, Matti Claire, Emily, Ethan, Audie Mack Muffin, Bre, Cooper and Trendon. He had many other cherished family and friends. Memorial services for Dennis will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Grace Tabernacle in Dew at 4:30pm. Friends are invited for visitation at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Tabernacle.
