Charlie Vineyard

Charlie Don Vineyard was born on August 30, 1957. He left this earth for his heavenly home on August 6, 2019. Charlie is survived by his wife of 31 years, Laurie Vineyard; his three children Katie Foster, Cody Vineyard, and Courtney Vineyard; his son-in-law James Foster and grandson Ace. He is also survived by his mother, Donna Vineyard; his father and stepmother Charlie and Linda Vineyard; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Vineyard; his grandparents JW and Dixie Nell Meacham and Phillip and Onie Gibson. Charlie was a high school football coach and teacher. He coached for 31 years and coached two state championship football teams and took several students to state track meets. Even though Charlie loved sports and competition, he cared more for young people and their souls. During his coaching career, he led many FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) huddles. After retiring from coaching, he became a staff member for FCA as the Heart of Texas East - Area Director for Navarro, Freestone, and Limestone counties. The priorities in Charlie’s life were God and his family. Charlie read the entire Bible through 31 times in his life. He believed “that God’s Word does not come back void” and loved to share scripture with everyone he knew and anyone he met. His ability to memorize scripture and even maintain scripture after a severe stroke was inspiring. Charlie served decades as a Sunday School teacher and elder at Believer’s Bible Church and Grace Community Church. Charlie also served as a Gideon. Charlie was a huge family man. He always prioritized family over work. He referred to Laurie as the “love of my life”. He left an endearing, recorded message for his children that “he loved them so much and was so proud of them.” He quoted the verse, “Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it.” He stated in his message that “I tried my hardest to do that and the greatest joy in my life are my three children. I love you beyond the moon. More than you will ever know.” It was evident the impact he had on his family as his adult children and son-in-law left their homes and rallied around and cared for Charlie and Laurie the last 41 days of his life. Charlie taught us how to live and he taught us how to die. He never wavered the slightest in his faith and shared it to the end. Charlie’s contagious laugh, humor, and goofy smile will be desperately missed. The world will be a less cheerful, friendly place without him but we know he is having a blast in heaven now. Please come and celebrate his life with us. The viewing will be at Griffin Roughton Funeral Home from 6-8 pm on Friday, August 9th.
