Billy Joe Reed

Joe Reed, 75, completed his earthly journey and entered the peace of his Lord and Savior. For 39 years, he served Navarro Regional Hospital as a Radiology Technician, known for his gentle manner and the way he put patients at ease. He was a devoted man of God, a loving husband, father, grandfather (“Pop”), brother, and friend. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam era. Joe loved tending his yard, heading out on fishing adventures, and simply being outdoors in God’s creation—especially on the porch with a cup of coffee, “talking to the birds.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaston and Dorthy Reed; in-laws, Bill and Sandra Thompson; brother, Alan Dale; sister, Janice Whiteley; brother-in-law, Jerry Whiteley; brother-in-law, Ricky Thompson; son, Cade Reed; and his greatest influence, his grandfather “Big Paw,” Leonard Reed. Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Paula; his children, Kristina and Brendon of Phoenix, AZ; Cody and Amber Reed of Corsicana; and Caylin and Justin Milligan of Purdon. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Taylor of Phoenix, AZ; Brooke and Corbin Hall of Blooming Grove; Braydon and Cason Reed of Blooming Grove; Emma McLaughlin of Missouri; and Connor, Dillon, Ethan, and Fischer Milligan of Purdon; as well as great-grandsons, Beckham and Greyson Hall of Blooming Grove. He is further survived by his sisters, JoAnn (Dewayne) Farrell of Fairfield and Sandie (Barry) of Fairfield; his brothers, Larry (Sharon) Reed of Duncanville and Lee (Debbie) Reed of Montgomery; and in-laws, Johnnie (David) of Corsicana and Jimmy (Tanya) of Lometa. Special uncles include Kenneth Reed of Roscoe and Paul (Margaret) Molidor of Duncanville. He leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends. Pallbearers will be Braydon Reed, Cason Reed, Corbin Hall, Scotty Reed, Alex Reed, and Rusty Latham. Joe’s sweet, stubborn, and wonderfully quirky spirit is already deeply missed. As he often said, “Don’t worry, it will take care of itself.” May we honor his faith by being ready for the next journey to come. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 2 at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery at 10:00am. Pallbearers will be Braydon Reed, Cason Reed, Corbin Hall, Alex Reed, Rusty Latham and Scotty Reed.
