February 11, 1942 - February 5, 2022
Mavis Joy Skinner passed peacefully and woke in the arms of Jesus on February 5, 2022. She was born Mavis Joy Lane to T.B Lane and Beatrice Derryberry Lane on February 11, 1942 in Corsicana Texas. In her early years she was known to her family as “Bit” because of her small size. From the beginning of her education (kindergarten) through high school, she worked diligently and maintained a perfect attendance record upon graduating from CHS in 1960. On December 23, 1961 she married the love of her life Stephen. The pair spent over 60 years side by side. In the beginning years of their marriage they spent time in the Peace Corp in Honduras. They also served as cottage parents to children in need at Texas Baptist Children’s Home. Later they hosted Bible studies for children in their home leading souls to Christ. Mavis was blessed with two sons. They were the greatest joys of her life. She was a loving mother and adored her boys. In her later years she earned the title of “maw” given by her precious grandsons. The last few years of her life Stephen was her devoted caretaker. She had an artistic soul with a God given talent to paint. She graduated from San Antonio College with an Art degree. Her paintings grace the walls of her home as well the walls of her family where they are treasured by her loved ones. She had a special passion for all of God’s creations and was a safe harbor for all stray animals. She loved fiercely and persevered hardships with dignity and grace. She is survived by her husband Stephen Skinner, her eldest son Mark, her youngest son Josh and wife Lisa, grandsons Ty and fiancé Nicole Alvarado, youngest grandson Peyton Skinner, sister Thelma Lewis, brother Thomas (Bud) Lane and wife Lucy and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary (Sis) Jenkins. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from 12:00 - 1:00pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
