Mary Ann Melton Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary Ann Rose Melton, 84, of Dresden, TX went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 14, 2022, at Twilight Nursing Home in Corsicana. She was surrounded by family members and friends as she made this sacred transition. Mary Ann was born to David L. Rose and Lois (Vinson) Rose on March 21, 1937, in Hillsboro, Texas. She was raised in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1955. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janie Herring and brother- in- law, Richard Herring. On May 10, 1958, Mary Ann married the love of her life, JK (Jake) Melton. They lived in the Dresden area for most of their married lives. Three children were born of this union, Benny, Penney and Brett. Mary Ann and JK raised their families alongside his beloved brother, Doug Melton, now deceased, and his wife, Nancy. The two families’ stories are intertwined due to work and the desire to be close to loved ones. It is with fondness and laughter that tales of those years are often recounted. Mary Ann worked at various establishments during her lifetime. She worked at the Navarro County Courthouse, Medical Arts Clinic and Navarro College to name a few. She willingly ended working outside the home when she became caregiver for her father-in-law, Mr. Ben B. Melton. Mary Ann filled many roles as she was the wife of a carpenter, caregiver for the elderly as well as the grandchildren at times, and kept a warm and welcoming home. Feeding people was at the top of her list of talents. The family enjoyed many Sunday lunches after church, impeccable meals thrown together at a moment’s notice, her infamous fried apricot pies and the ever-famous eggless, milk less cake! Her kitchen was always open to any and everyone. Mary Ann was a Christian and loved to study the Word of God. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove where she taught Sunday School for over 35 years. She taught all ages at one time or another, including her own children and her grandchildren. When you walked into her living room you would often find an open bible and study devotional next to her chair as she studied scripture faithfully. Mary Ann loved her family and friends. She also loved to travel with them. She and Jake went on a number of Cruises and in 1985 she enjoyed a trip of a lifetime to the Holy Lands with her church family. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 64 years, JK; her two brothers, Johnny and wife Shirley of Malone and David (Bud) Rose and his wife, Elna of Corsicana. She is also survived by her children, Benny and wife Becky of Frost, Penney Weaver and husband Marty and Brett and wife Christine all of Blooming Grove. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brittany Weaver McMath and husband Bankston, Ben Melton, Derek Weaver and wife Holi, Brooke Melton, Ethan Weaver, Bailey Melton and Rylie Melton. She was ever so proud of her great grandchildren which include Jackson, Tucker and Lainey McMath, Weston Kinkade, Tate Norton and Rhett and Stetson Weaver. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Twilight Home Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Bristol Hospice. Visitation will be Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 5-7pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am Friday, February 18, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove with Bro. Grady Cashion officiating. Burial will follow at Dresden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derek Weaver, Ben Melton, Ethan Weaver, Bankston McMath, Timmy Keith and Jason Farish. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove. Any memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
