July 26, 1959 - September 14, 2021
Kenneth “Tex” Ackley, age 62 of Navarro Mills, Texas passed into glory Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Kenneth was a man who truly loved the outdoors. He could fish when the fish weren’t biting and hunt when the deer were nowhere in sight. If he wasn’t hunting or fishing he was mowing or working on his property. He was a man of many talents, but he will mostly be remembered for his big heart. His big heart we all knew today was a result of overcoming hardship in his life. Kenneth was one of eight siblings. His education was cut short to help provide financially for his family. More hardship would follow as his family would lose the father of their household, Charles Wayne Ackley. A few years later he traveled across the country to California and met the love of his life, embraced her son as his own, and adopted the nickname that traveled back to Texas with him, Tex. Tex planted his family in Navarro Mills, Texas where he took on many different roles within the community. Some knew him as Dad even though they weren’t his biological children. Some knew him as "coach" from the many sports he was involved in. Some knew him as an umpire or referee, but most knew him as a good friend. Each season of his life contributed to him becoming the God-fearing family man that we all know today. He showed God’s love over the years by taking people into his home who were in need. He would show that love by dropping his own plans to tend to the needs of others. He invested his time and effort into his local church. He would have given the shirt right off his back to a total stranger. That’s how God designed him and that’s how God used him. Once his heart was moved to help there was no stopping him. He truly fulfilled the words of Christ in Matthew 22 when asked what the greatest commandment was. He loved God and loved others as himself. Tex is preceded in death by his father, Charles Wayne Ackley, his mother Marcella Ernestine Ackley and two of his sisters Connie Coburn and Diane Cantu. He is survived by his wife Debra Ackley, kids Earl and Crystal Ackley, Kenneth and Tamerra Ackley, Janelle Ackley, and Scott and Laura Ackley. He is also survived by siblings: sisters Linda Kelly, Susan Mitchell, and Elizabeth Morton and brothers David Ackley and Charles Ackley. Finally, he is survived by eleven grandchildren and many cousins and countless friends. Visitation will be 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Friday, September 17, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, September 18, 2021 at First Baptist church in Blooming Grove. Burial will follow at Dresden Cemetery.
