Jerry E. Farmer

January 27, 1926 - April 29, 2022

Jerry Ervin Farmer (JE) was born in Richland, TX on January 27th, 1926 to Thomas Odie Farmer and Rhota Myrtle Carter. He passed away peacefully at his home on April 29th, 2022. He was one of four children. In his young days, he worked as a farm hand before starting work at the cotton gin in Powell. He moved on to working at the Lone Star Gas Company where he would retire after 37+ years of being a construction and maintenance supervisor which included welding. He also served as a member of the National Guard and retired after serving over 20+ years. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church and The Optimist Club. Jerry married the love of his life, Delorise Maxine Marr, on August 17th, 1951. Together they raised two children, Ervin Dale and Karen Sue Farmer. They lived a wonderful and happy life. Delorise passed away in July 1999. J.E. was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Odie (T.O.) Farmer and Rhota Myrtle Carter, maternal grandparents Redrick Jackson Carter and Martha Evelyn Harris, brothers Thomas Millard Farmer, his twin R.C. Farmer, sister Martha Barlow, wife Delorise Maxine Farmer, and his son Ervin Dale Farmer. He is survived by his daughter Karen Sue Farmer (James C. Almond), his grand-daughters Crystal Marie Farmer Hicks (Delwyn) and Shelley Karise Almond (Keith Hamilton), great grandsons Marcus Allen Perkins and Tye James Hamilton, sister-in-law Dorothy Farmer, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews. He was a very caring, hard-working father and a very loving grandfather. Family time consisted of camping, riding on the boat, fishing, water skiing, and taking road trips on country roads. He enjoyed building all kinds of things such as Karen’s rabbit pen, a boat, and building on to his home. He lived an incredible 96 years. Visitation will be Sunday, May 8th from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11:00am Monday, May 9th at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with John Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery. A huge thanks to everyone who has helped provide care during these 11 years. Dr. Dale Campbell, Shelly, Becky, Linda, Phillip, Adene, Carolyn, and Othera, Angels at Home New Century Hospice, Kim Johnston and Patricia Barber. Pallbearers will be Benny Lambert, Terry Farmer, Randy Farmer, Keith Barber, Ole Larsen, Bobby Farmer, Kevin Farmer, Larry Adams, Kenneth Martin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Geral Nichols, Herbert Wilcox, Dr. Dave Campbell, Brian Beamon, Kenneth Brown. In lieu of flowers: Alzheimer Association, Angus Volunteer Fire Dept. or American Cancer Society.
