Walter Stoddard

Walter Charles “Butch” Stoddard at the age of 81, passed peacefully at home on September 28, 2022. Walt was born April 9, 1941, at home in Saginaw, Michigan. Upon graduating from Arthur Hill High School, Walt joined the US Navy where he served on the USS Farragut during the Cuban Missile Block-Aid as well as taught IC at the Great Lakes Naval Base. He worked as a journeyman electrician for General Motors and taught in electrical apprenticeship programs in the Saginaw area. He then went on to be a commercial fisherman on Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron. Walt served as the President of the Michigan Fish Producers Association for 10 years and lobbied in Lansing on behalf of the Great Lakes Commercial Fishing Industry. He finished his working career as a project manager and technical trainer for 35 years with Rockwell Automation where he traveled the world for the company. During this time Walt left Michigan and lived in Lake St. Louis, MO for a time and then landed in Streetman, TX where he lived the remainder of his life. Walt was an accomplished boat builder, avid tennis player, carpenter & cabinet maker, enjoyed sailing, was a huge baseball fan and fished for recreation avidly. Walt prized and practiced honesty, integrity, and fairness. He was an honorable and talented man. Walt prized his family more than anything else. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by all. Walt is survived by his wife, Debra Stoddard; daughter, Elizabeth Stanley (Randy), son, Matthew Stoddard (Sandy), son, Timothy Geese (Carrie), son, Jonah Brown, daughter, Amanda Rousseau (Andrew), and son, Adam Brown (Grace); sisters Catherine Kapala (Jim) and Ellen Steiner; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Minnie Stoddard, and his sister, Mariette Stoddard. Visitation will be 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Saturday, October 8, 2022. Memorial service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home chapel. Graveside service will be Monday, October 10, 2022 at DFW National Cemetery.
