Sylvia Hayes

Sylvia Danielle Hayes joined the angels on November 27, 2014. She was a fighter until the end and showed more strength and courage than could be imagined. Sylvia was born on August 6, 1939 in Corsicana, Texas to Eldridge and Lola Hayes. She was raised in Abbott, Texas as a child. Sylvia married her lifelong sweetheart James "Buster" Hayes on June 2, 1956. The two of them shared 58 wonderful years together. Sylvia was a strong Christian women and led everyday by example. She was a member of the Westhill Church of Christ in Corsicana. She was a nursing home administrator for many, many years and always enjoyed working with the elderly. She was a strong believer in education and had over 19 degrees and certifications to her credit. She would always encourage a strong education and work ethic in all who came into contact with her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge and Lola Hayes; her sister, Shirley Jean Hayes; her brother, Kenneth Burleson. Sylvia is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, James "Buster" Hayes of Corsicana; three loving daughters, Charlotte and James Biddy of Kerens, Teresa Young of Purdon and her fiancé Jim McDowell of Blooming Grove and Libby Layfield and her husband Kyle of Kerens. Sylvia's four grandchildren held a special place in her heart and will miss her tremendously; Kristen Biddy of Kerens, Kaylon Williams of Corsicana, Alexander Layfield of Kerens and Lauren Layfield of Kerens. She is also survived by her brothers Thomas Burleson of Amarillo and Roy Hayes of Corsicana; and a sister, Karen Hayes of Corsicana. Visitation with Sylvia's family will be Sunday afternoon from 2pm - 4pm at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 10am in the Chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Jimmy Glenn from the Kerens Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton - Beeman Cemetery in Retreat. Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Layfield, Alex Layfield, Jim McDowell, Gerry Harris, Eddie Jones.
