Ronald Keith Childers

Ronald Keith Childers, age 87, of Corsicana, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2024. He was born on August 16, 1937, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, to George Hilliard and Loreta Gunner Childers. Ronald is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Patricia Childers, and his brothers Larry George Childers and Kenneth Gerald Childers and wife Sandi. He is also survived by his children: Rhonda Cantrell and husband Randy, Karen Childers and husband David, Janet Childers and husband Leon, Cheryl Eager and husband Scott, Darrell Childers and partner John, Susan West and husband Damon, Robert Golden and wife Leslie, and Angela Childers, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nelda Viola Thompson Childers, his parents, and his brother Gary Max Childers. Ronald lived a rich and varied life. In his youth, he was the lead singer and bass fiddler in Germ's Band, which performed on KTAT Radio in Frederick from 1954-1955. He was active in the Frederick High School FFA from 1952-1955 and a proud member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter F from 1985-1998. An avid golfer and passionate Texas Rangers baseball fan, Ronald lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment. Ronald was an active member of the Church of Christ for many years. He retired as an industrial engineer in 1999 and, along with Patricia, traveled across the United States in their RV, working in campgrounds until retiring from Kampgrounds of America in 2018. They made Corsicana their home for the last six years. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. A private ceremony to spread his ashes at his childhood farm in Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at a later date. Ron's Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Halbert Pavillion, Corsicana, TX, Friday, September 27th from 1:00-3:30. It will be a time of casual remembrance, fellowship, and Ron's favorite cookies.
