Roger Pillans

Roger Wayne Pillans, 58 of St. Elmo, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 15, 2011 in Anderson County. Roger was born June 18, 1952 in Corsicana to Wayne and Joyce Johnson Pillans. He grew up in St. Elmo where he lived all his life. Roger grew up beside his daddy farming and ranching. He loved playing football, baseball, hunting, riding motorcycles with all the other kids in St. Elmo. Riding horses, working cows and roping were his passion. In his adult life he loved operating trucks and heavy equipment, going to rodeos, roping and hunting. He had countless friends and loved his family. Roger was saved at the age of 11 and served the Lord through out his life. He attended Fairfield Schools Sam Houston State University and earned his Masters degree from Stephen F. Austin. He entered the public school teaching profession while continuing to help his daddy maintain a farm and cattle operation. He was a full time father who loved his children unconditionally without end. The Lord blessed him with a gift of love and understanding and allowed him to share this gift with many young people whom he loved like his own children. He took many into his home and taught them about living a Christian life and being an example for others to follow. He loved playing pranks and jokes on unsuspecting people, especially his wife Linda. He could be found most nights on his ranger shining his spotlight hunting and riding the roads. He touched the life of all he encountered and will be sorely missed by family and friends but we know he would tell us to "be strong, weather the storm and go on." We will always remember his smile, laugh, jokes and the memories he has left us. Roger is preceded in death by his father and mentor, Wayne Pillans. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda Pillans, his baby doll, Dana Rae Pillans Kennedy and husband Brad, his little man, Jerrod Pillans, daughter Paige Spivey Almon and husband Wade, daughter Kristy Spivey Reynolds and hsuband Ryan, son Trent Spivey, son Cody Saculla; grandchildren Rance Pillans, River Pillans, Laney Almon, Karter Almon, Landon Reynolds and Kate Reynolds; mother Joyce Pillans, sister Judy Pillans Hagler and husband Corky; niece Lanna Hagler McCabe and husband Ryan; nephew Clay Hagler and wife Jennifer; numerous other loved ones. Visitation will be 6-8pm Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 10am Friday, May 20, 2011 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Bro. Elton McCann and Johnny Saculla officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elmo Cemetery. Pallbears will be Johnny Mack Johnson, Johnny Day Johnson, David Johnson, Ricky Loftis, Benny Pillans, Gary Pillans, Gary Myrle Pillans, Phil Pillans.
