Rodney Lane Burt

Rodney Lane Burt was born in Dallas, TX on April 25,1932 and passed away peacefully in Corsicana, TX on November 17, 2024. He was a beloved son of Smoot Brunet Burt and Harriet Eula Nowlin Burt. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, TX in 1950. Rodney began his military service during the Korean War. He served in the U. S. Army and the Army Reserve from June 1955 to November 1959. He completed Basic Training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX and was stationed in San Fracisco, CA as a Missile Launch Crewman. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was very proud of his service to the United States of America. Rodney married the love of his life, Alice Adelia Cooper, in the church where they met, on December 21, 1956, at Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church in Dallas, TX. Rodney and Alice’s parents both attended Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church and were long time members. Rodney and Alice had five children: Terri Lyn, Vicki Lanette, Allen Brunet, Rodney Wade, and David Brian. Rodney and Alice first lived in Lubbock TX, then with his growing family, they lived in Oak Cliff, TX and Grand Prairie, TX. Rodney was a man of many talents. He could build or repair almost anything around the house. He loved his Halloween and Christmas yard decorations, adding to them most every year. Above all, Rodney was a kindhearted, easy-going man. He loved to read, especially stories about war and war technology. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Billy Ray Waller. Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Alice Adelia Cooper Burt of Corsicana, TX; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Sue Manning of Dallas, TX and Janet and Maston Sillan of Grand Prairie, TX; two daughters and one son-in-law: Terri Waller of Waxahachie, TX, Vicki and Matt Oglesby of Tomball, TX; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Allen and Christy Burt of Corsicana, TX; Rodney (Wade) Burt of Mansfield, TX; and David and Susan Burt of Fayetteville, TN; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on December 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana, TX. Rodney donated his body to science. There will not be a visitation or burial after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions may be made to New Century Hospice through their website.
