Randy Cummins

Randy Cummins loved to laugh. He loved God and his wife & family. He was smart, competitive, warm, and witty and loved being home, and having family and friends come over. Through the years he had to be gone so much because of his chosen career as an Oil and Gas Landman. When he got home he wanted to stay home. His last years were so blessed by being able to do just that and enjoy his family. On April 6, 1954 Randy was born to Rosa Wear Cummins and James E. Cummins in Corsicana. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1972 and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1976 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. After he graduated he took a job in Mississippi with Mississippi Chemical. During that time he met and married his soulmate, Kay Smith on June 11, 1977. They moved back to Texas in 1978 and made their home and raised their family in Corsicana. Randy and Kay have two much loved daughters, Jill Cummins Ephlin and husband, Morgan of Chatfield, Texas, and Shelley Cummins Golden and husband Jordan of Corsicana. He was so proud of these two young women and the people they grew up to be. They were his daughters and also his friends who spent many times playing games, and talking about everything from religion to politics together. There are several things he wanted to instill in his daughters: to know Jesus Christ, to get an education, to know the importance of honesty, integrity and kindness in life and to live by the Golden Rule. He succeeded in doing this in all areas. Randy was a member of First Baptist Church of Corsicana. He served as a Sunday School teacher in Special Ministries for many years and always had a soft spot in his heart for them. He was a certified petroleum landman and was well known throughout Texas for his knowledge and expertise in this area. Having grandchildren was one of his greatest joys in life. The last 9-1/2 years Randy being PopPop to his two granddaughters, Kendal (Ephlin) and Kate (Golden) and one grandson, Knox (Golden) was a source of great love and enjoyment. He spent time playing Wi and reading to them, hunting 4 leaf clovers, making playhouses out of big boxes, watching Family Feud, Chuggington & Paw Patrol, teaching them things and doing anything they wanted to do while just being together. He loved playing golf at the Oaks with many golfing buddies. Many a time he would say, it isn’t about the game, it’s about just being together and having fun. I may dispute that because I never met someone who hated to lose at golf or any game more than Randy. He loved to talk smack and was good at it. He always loved a good joke. He made many lifelong friendships on the golf course. In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include one brother Roddy Cummins and wife Connie of Sunnyvale, Texas, one sister, Cheri and husband Glenn of Albuquerque, New Mexico, step mother Helga Cummins, mother & father-in-law, Nell & Rayford Smith of Fayette, Mississippi, sister & brother in laws Sheila and Butch Emfinger and Lynda and John Purser of Meadville, Mississippi, and brother and sister in law Ray and Julie Smith of Fayette, Mississippi, uncle and aunt Richard and Joan Cummins, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Eddie Gregory, Chuck Williams, Charlie Williams, Jack Coggins, Ricky Hickson, Phil Golden, Ed Ephlin and Garry Rhodes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Special Ministries Dept., 510 W. Collin, Corsicana, Texas 75110, or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society online at www.nationalmssociety.org/donate. Visitation will be at Griffin Roughton Funeral Home on Friday Feb. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Corsicana with burial immediately following at Oakwood Cemetery.
