Phillip Mesker

Phillip Wayne Mesker passed on from this world on September 6th, 2023. A kind gentle, and personable soul left us. His memory and impact did not. There are no buildings or parks bearing his name. There are no statues of him to be erected. His legacy is richer and more diverse because the "monuments" Phillip left behind are in the hearts and memories in those us still here. One would be correct in believing the hearts and memories belong to a large number of people who had a privilege and pleasure of knowing Phillip. Phillip was born on May 6, 1970. The next fifty-three years were filled with joy and sorrow. Those years were filled with laughter and tears. Those years were filled with triumphs and setbacks. Those years were shared with family and friends who will not share any regrets of having known Phillip and the times spent in his splendid company. His laughter and the way his eyes lit up when visiting and entertaining when customers whom he regarded as family and friends came to OMI (Old Mexican Inn for the uninitiated) is one of my favorite remembrances. Many can agree with that sentiment and Phillip would want it no other way. We say good-bye to Phillip's mortal coil, but we retain and hold dear to the memories that he gave us. Phillip still lives on in the stories and recollections of the many who knew him. That is a legacy many would love to leave. They have a tough act to follow. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marie Mesker; father Jimmy Don Mesker; grandparents Edgar Earl Eckin, Jr and Virginia Eakin; aunts Wilma Lee Hogle and Paula Kay Gonzales; uncle Earl Dwayne Eakin and grandnephew Alexander Matthew Medrano. He is survived by his mother Iris Mesker; brother Jimmy D. Mesker, Jr; sister-in-law Faith Mesker; uncles Lynn Eakin and Sonny Eakin. Visitation will be Monday, September 11th from 12:00pm-1:30pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:30 in the Chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
