Pamela Jean Cates

Pamela Jean Clay Cates, (Meme) of Corsicana, went to her heavenly home January 7, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born December 16, 1956, to Bobby Gene Clay and Lillie Smeltzer Clay. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Dean Cates, the week after graduation in 1975. They had two sons, Jason and Mike, that kept them on their toes, whether it be on the ballfield or just being boys. She was a second mom to Scott Andrews and Jeff Roddy who also kept her on her toes. She was a CNA in the Corsicana area for many years and loved all the ones she helped along the way. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to Elvis, watching her granddaughters play softball, and taking her granddaughters to see Christmas lights. She also loved to fix everything, including the cabinet door that ended up being glued shut, with a hot glue gun. To greet her at the Pearly Gates were husband, Dean Cates; Grandparents, Seldon and Geraldine Smeltzer; Parents, Bobby and Lillie Clay; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Gerald and Imagene Cates; Sister-in-law, Brenda Cates; and Neice, Shelley Alejandre. Those left to cherish her memory are, sons, Jason and wife Paula Cates of Corsicana, Mike and wife Thresa of Corsicana; Grandchildren, Paige Cates, Laney Cates, Kenneth Black and wife Kala, all of Corsicana, Chase Edwards and wife Shelby of Dawson; Brother, David Clay and wife Darlene of Arlington, Randy Clay and wife Lisa of Corsicana; Brother in laws, Joe Cates and wife JoAnn of Barry, Roy Cates of Corsicana; Sister in law, Linda Stepp of Corsicana; Nephews, Chris Cates and wife Kylie of Michigan, Brody Clay and wife Shandee of Mildred, Dustin Clay and Katie of Providence Village, J. T. Humphries of Corsicana; Nieces, Paula Kirtley and husband Billy of Tool, Stephanie Cates and boyfriend Daniel Dunahoo of Dawson, Lori and Anthony Trimble of Weatherford, and Megan Rivera of Corsicana; along with many friends that she loved like family. Pallbearers will be Jeff Roddy, Scott Andrews, Brody Clay, Shane Tolleson, Daniel Dunahoo, and Jake McCarty. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 13 from 6pm to 8pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 11am at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. The family would like to give thanks to Always Accurate Hospice, Piper and her little helper Remington, for their loving care for our beloved Meme. Save us some Dr. Pepper and pickles! We love you to the moon and back!
