Nona Marie Gill

Nona Marie Poovey Gill, 71, formerly of Fort Worth, Texas, left the cares of this life on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Nona was born on September 28, 1954, to William and Juanita Arney Poovey. She is preceded in death by her husband David Gill, her parents, her sisters Adella Mackens and Alicia Poovey, and her mother and father-in-law Merle and Florence Gill. She is survived by her sister Anita and husband Lynn Short of Ben Wheeler, Texas; nieces Amanda Green and husband James, Kim Lemmert and husband Ches, Valerie Richards and husband Jason, Elise Farrar and husband Trey; nephews Ben Ewing and wife Jessica, Chris Stewart and wife Shelita, and Michael Mackens and wife LeAnne; and many great nieces and nephews. Nona grew up in Dallas and graduated from David W. Carter High School in 1973. Nona married David in Dallas, Texas September 12, 1987. Together they lived in Shreveport, Louisiana until they moved to Keller, Texas in 2013. Nona was an avid sports fan, and you could often find her and David attending a sporting event of some kind. She loved to watch her nieces and nephews participate in sports and often drove many miles to be a loud and proud aunt. Nona lived life with a tenacity that endeared her to those that knew her. Nona loved Jesus, she loved David and she loved her family. She was a natural protector and a nurturer. For her family, to know Nona was to know her fierce love. In the words of her family: She loved with her whole heart. She was for us. She was a great giver. She needed and wanted time with her family. She gave the best hugs and sideways kisses. She always made sure we included David. She loved church and she cried at goodbyes. She loved Jesus and is with him today. She wanted her family and friends to be happy. She was proud of them. She loved hockey and Ryan and Luke Minard. She didn't want to cook but loved the holidays. She had great eyebrows and fingernails and put on perfect mascara. She loved yellow Vaseline lotion, and the towels had to be folded just so. Everything just so is a perfect description of Nona, she had a heart too big for all the cares of this world, and she lived life with great passion. She leaves a huge hole in our hearts, and we will miss her every day.
