Nathan Smith

Nathan Eugene Smith, 66, of Pursley, TX, passed away on January 14, 2025, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. He was born on May 27, 1958, in Jacksonville, FL, to William Eugene & Daisy Geneva Smith. On January 9, 1972, Nathan accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Nathan enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, spending time at the beach, and going on cruises. Nathan worked for Corsicana Technologies for over 30 years. He always had an entrepreneurial spirit owning Dawson Grocery and Market in Dawson for several years. He was also a co-owner of Smokin Guns BBQ in Corsicana since its opening in 2014. Nathan also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Paula. Nathan and Paula both attended Dawson High School and reunited in March 2009. Nathan’s daughter introduced them, not knowing that they already knew each other. They got engaged in December 2010 and married on April 30, 2011. He loved his wife, kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Nathan was preceded in death by parents, William Eugene Smith and Daisy Geneva Smith; stepmom, Mary Jo Smith; brother, Barry Smith; and nephew, Jeremy Smith. Those left to cherish his memory are: Wife, Paula Bates-Smith; Children, Brandon and Kristin Bates, Kevin and Jessica Smith, Courtney and Travis Taylor, Jessica Smith, Brianna Bates; Daughter By Love, Taylor Klanika; Grandchildren, Jorden and Gracie Smith, Jaden Smith, Hannah Bates, Rustyn Taylor, Hallie Bates, Andrew Smith, Kynlee Smith, Kenzie Smith, Harper Bates, Katelyn Smith, Nova Smith, Kiner Taylor; Great-Grandchildren, Jazlyn Grace Smith, Easton Collin Smith and Nash Eugene Smith; Grandchild by Love, Waylon Klanika; Mother-in-law, Mary Robinson, Sister, Kay Walther and husband Vic; Brother-in-law and Sisters-in-law, Vicky Smith, Dawn Clay, Sherman Putman; along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends that he loved dearly. Honorary Pallbearers are Jackie Freeland, Vic “Bubba” Walther, Sherman Putman, Doug Woods, and Terry Lough. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00pm at Corsicana Cowboy Church at 5864 W Hwy 31, Corsicana. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nathan’s memory can be made to the Coach Ed Mitchell Statute Fund at Dawson High School.
