Miguel Ruiz

Miguel “Mike” Ruiz, Sr., 80, husband of the late Nellie (Luna) Ruiz, passed away surrounded by all his children and family on Saturday, January 25, 2020. Miguel was born on September 29, 1939 to Aurelio and Olivia Ruiz in Donna, TX. He spent most of his life residing in Corsicana and was married to Nellie on January 29, 1969 until her unexpected passing on July 25, 2003. He was an avid reader, wrote the funniest notes, and had a specific spot on the kitchen and patio tables. He was a legend, one of a kind, the rock of the family and a one in a million combination of smart, tough, blunt, funny and stubborn. He will be tremendously missed and forever be remembered as the best Dad, Father-in-law, Pops, Grampie, Grandpa, and Big Popo. Miguel was preceded in death by his parents, Aurelio and Olivia Ruiz; wife, Nellie Ruiz; and three brothers, Lorenzo Ruiz, Joe Ruiz and Antonio Ruiz, Sr. He is survived by his daughter Laura and son-in-law Rafael Renteria, sons and daughters-in-law Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and Norma Ruiz and William and Sina Ruiz, all of Corsicana; brothers Gilbert Ruiz and Ray Ruiz of Corsicana, Jose Longino Ruiz of El Paso, and Frank Ruiz of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Desiree DeLaCorte, Paul DeLaCorte, Gabriel DeLaCorte, Dameion Ruiz, Tristan Saunders and fiancée Jasmine Olivia Garcia, Abriana Ruiz, LJ Decherong and Daryn Ruiz; great grandchildren Hayleigh DeLaCorte, Jazmine Medina, Isabelle Kay DeLaCorte, and Tristan Daniel Saunders, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, his dog Charlie. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Daniel Ruiz conducting the services. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul DeLaCorte, Gabriel DeLaCorte, Dameion Ruiz, Tristan Saunders, LJ Decherong, Daryn Ruiz, and Mitchell Solis. In addition to flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Corsicana Public Library or Paralyzed Veterans of America in honor of Miguel Ruiz, Sr.
