Michael Glenn Hopson

Michael “Mike” Glenn Hopson passed away August 8th at 5:53 with his family by his side. Mike was born in Corsicana, TX on November 20, 1963. He is a graduate of Dawson High School and remained in the Corsicana area with his wife and sons. “Hoppy” as he was often called, began working in law enforcement in Ellis County in 1984. Over his 35+ year career in law enforcement, he served as a jailor, Patrol Officer, Criminal Investigator, Detective Sergeant, Narcotics, Criminal Investigations Lieutenant, and Criminal Investigations Captain. He embraced all of these roles with unwavering dedication, going above and beyond the call of duty. Hoppy earned the respect and admiration of his brothers in arms and the community. For his retirement announcement, the Ennis Police Department stated that “Mike embodies Service, Honor, and Vigilance.” If you know Hoppy, you know that his love for law enforcement runs deep and strong. He was honored to serve his community. Mike was a proud member of the law enforcement family but an even prouder father of his two sons, Dillon and Andrew. Mike liked to talk cars and guns with Dillon and was convinced that Andrew’s caring disposition would serve him well in the medical profession. Mike was a devoted husband of almost 40 years to his wife Dianne. He was a cherished member of his extended family and always brought the laughs with his quick wit and dry humor. If you ever wanted the truth, Mike was the guy to ask. Mike was reliable, stubborn, respectable, and hard-working. His entire family is proud of his accomplishments, proud of his dedication, and proud of the man he was. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Sara Hopson, grandparents, Glenn and Virginia Scholle, as well as his father-in-law, Jimmy McCamey. In addition to Dianne, Dillon, and Andrew, Mike is survived by his mother-in-law, Berta McCamey, Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law David and Teresa Abbe, Jim and Monnie Metcalfe and sisters Joetta and Cindy. Mike was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and will be missed by his faithful companion, Tucker. A memorial service will be held at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana, TX on Sunday, August 18th, at 2:00 pm.
