Mary Juanita (Nita) Conn

Mary Juanita (Nita) Conn went HOME Tuesday, October 18, 2016. She fought a good fight against numerous health battles and is now freed from the struggles and pains of this Life. She is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Clarence Lafayette and Mary Clemie Miley, 4 sisters, Kathryn Conn, Dorothy Russell, Hilda Hardin and Bobbie Greer, and her husband, J.W. Conn. She is survived by her brother, Charles Miley, her children, Pam and Billy Conn, her god-daughter, JoLynn Mixon Fisher, her best friend of 60+ years, Billie Jean Mixon, her grandchildren, Alisha Massey, Andrew and Katelyn Conn, a great-grandson, Gavin Fox Massey, her daughters-in-law, Carolyn Conn and Patty Lane, her grandson in law Bret Massey, granddaughter in law, Claire Becker and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Port Arthur, Tx., Juanita grew up in rural Emhouse, Tx. A child of the Great Depression, she always told people we didn’t know they were poor because Momma and Daddy shared so much love and provided so well the basics of life. In 1942, she married J.W. and they moved to Corsicana. In her twenties, and before raising two children, Juanita worked for the Singer Sewing Company where she taught many women older than her to sew. When J.W. died in 1968, she worked for American National Insurance Co., retiring from there after 20 years. Surviving all their husbands, the sisters, Juanita, Dorothy and Bobbie lived together in Corsicana for over 20 years. Known about town as “The Golden Girls,” they made beautiful Christmas stockings together and took food to countless families when their loved ones were sick. Now, Juanita is an Angel in Heaven, once again in the embrace of her God, her Mother and Father, her sisters and her loving husband. We grieve because our world is without a sweet and special soul, yet her memory will live strong within us….brought to life by a Christmas stocking hung at the holidays, the touch of a piece of fabric sewn by her hand, one of her recipes made, or a story of long ago told. Graveside service will be 1:00 pm Friday, October 21, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made in her name to Hospice of East Texas Foundation 4111 University Blvd. Tyler, Texas 76701.
