Linda G. Tate

Linda Gail Dunn Tate, 70, was called home to be with the Lord on November 23, 2024 while at home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on January 16, 1954 to Philip and Gladys Dunn in Corsicana, TX. Linda graduated as valedictorian from Mildred High School and went on to study at Navarro College. She graduated with honors from Sam Houston State University earning a bachelor’s degree to become an elementary school teacher. After 30+ years in education, she retired from Rice Independent School District having spent the majority of her career there. Linda met the love of her life, Harold W. Tate, at Wesley United Methodist Church during her senior year of high school. They married December 28, 1975 and would have celebrated 49 years together this December. Linda and Harold raised two daughters, Andrea “Andi” Tate and Kathryn “Katie” Crocker, and grandsons, Lendon Tate and Lane Morris. A life-long member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Linda sang in the choir with her mother under the direction of Harold and was known for her beautiful singing voice. Linda had a quick wit and dry sense of humor which she got from her step-father, Dennis Donoho. She was the sought after partner for Trivial Pursuit on family game night. An avid movie fan, Linda was a human database of facts about movies and actors. She was soft-spoken, a trait from her father, but could pull out her “teacher voice” when the time called for it. She loved a good afternoon nap. She had a beautiful smile and the best laugh. Linda was the sweetest and most considerate person, always thinking of others’ feelings, which she learned from her mother. She was the gentlest soul who never spoke harshly or said an ugly word about another person. She embodied the qualities of love as described by Paul in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8a. She was patient and kind. She did not envy or boast. She was not proud and did not dishonor others. She was not self-seeking. She was not easily angered and kept no record of wrongs. She did not delight in evil but rejoiced with the truth. She always protected, always trusted, always hoped, always persevered. Her love for family never failed. Family was the most important thing to her. Linda is preceded in death by her parents Arthur Philip Dunn and Gladys Boyd; step-fathers Dennis Donoho and Harmon Boyd; son Philip Alton Tate; mother-in-law Oranell “Mary” Tate, and brothers-in-law Winston Popham and Steve Burton. She is survived by her husband Harold; daughter Andi; daughter and son-in-law Katie and Robby Crocker; grandson Lendon and financé Kenzie Gonzalez; grandson Lane; sister and brother-in-law Phyliss and David Jones; brother and sister-in-law Tracy and Shelby Donoho; step-brother Dennis D. Donoho; sisters-in-law Donna Sublet, Denise Popham, and Dianne Burton; brother-in-law and wife Paul and Carol Tate, brother-in-law and wife Dow and Becky Tate; a number of loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family. Linda’s legacy of love for her family, kindness toward others, faith in God, and incredible patience will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A memorial service is scheduled at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home on December 7, 2024 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Linda’s name for Parkinson’s Disease research or to your local animal shelter.
