Lawrence Peters

Lawrence “Pete” Peters, 86, of Blooming Grove passed away Monday, November 16, 2015, at his residence. He was born May 3, 1929, in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii to Antone and Annie Peters. Pete was a loving husband, father and grandfather and dedicated his life to serving his country and taking care of his family. He enlisted in the United States Army in May, 1946, and served for 6 yrs where he was a veteran of the Korean War. Seven months after an honorable discharge from the Army, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, which included serving tours overseas in France and Germany. He retired after 20 years of service to his country on December 31, 1966. He married Kathryn McGraw on May 1, 1956. Upon his retirement from the military, they made their home in Blooming Grove, Texas, where they raised their two children. He was employed at Navarro College from 1967 – 1977 and Texas Youth Commission from 1977 to 1987, when he retired again after 20 years of service to the State of Texas. He was an electrician and heating-A/C repairman by trade and owned his own business for many years. In his retirement years, he enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends and watching cooking shows and cooking for his family. He loved having his family together and cooking big meals. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Josephine and Velma, and two brothers Clarence and Philbert. Deeply loved by his family, his memory will be carried on by his wife of 59 years, Kathryn McGraw Peters, his son, David Peters, and daughter Janet Peters Matous and husband John of Blooming Grove, Texas; three grandchildren, Clayton Peters and wife Courtney, Lane Matous and Matt Matous, and one great-grandson Brayden Peters, all of Blooming Grove, and one brother, Roland Peters, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana, TX. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2015, at Central Baptist Church in Blooming Grove with Dr. Darren Heil officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove. Serving as Pallbearers will be nephews, Tim McGraw, Scott McGraw, Kyle McGraw, Travis McGraw, Todd McGraw, Kasey McGraw, Jeff McGraw, Michael Smith and Charlie McGraw.
