Juanita Dyer

Juanita Adell (Tanner) Dyer entered the gates of Heaven on the evening of June 18, 2016. She spent the last 7 of her 94 blessed years as a resident of Heritage Oaks West. She was born September 24, 1921 to Louis Whitfield & Lillie Tanner in the community of Pursley in Navarro County. She attended school at Pursley & Union High. She married the love of her life Thomas Dyer on September 4, 1938 & they shared 62 wonderful years together in the Shady Grove Community. They are survived by 4 children; daughters Shirley Ladd & husband John of Tyler & Brenda Rhodes & husband Elwyn of Purdon; sons Lowell Dyer & wife Julie of Corsicana & Ricky Dyer of Purdon. She is survived by 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Lewis W. Tanner of Dawson, sisters Delois Lane of Corsicana, Reba Gullett of Brownsboro, Faylene Dick of Wortham & many specially loved nieces & nephews. Juanita worked alongside her husband in making a living as farmers & ranchers. She was a devoted stay at home mother to her children. She was a perfect hostess in her home welcoming all who entered. She was a wonderful cook well-known for her delicious desserts. She labored many spring & summer seasons to reap & share the benefits of a bountiful garden. She had a servant’s heart & was willing to help others . Juanita & Thomas were lifelong members of Shady Grove Baptist Church; faithfully entering the doors every time they were open & serving & supporting the church in anyway needed. Preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her step-mother Ola Tanner, sisters Evie Nunn, Bessie Sawyer & Miriam Praytor; step-brothers J.W. Benton, H.R. Benton & Billy Benton. A special thank you to her loving caregivers Ruth Johnson & Carolyn Clay for their dependable, ever-nurturing devotion to our Mother. Also to Dr. Kent Rogers who cared for her many years and to the nurses & staff of Heritage Oaks. Visitation with her family will be Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2016 from 2 - 3 pm in the Chapel at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home with services following at 3 pm with Bro. Chris Blacksmith and Bro. Brian Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tim Ladd, Brad Dyer, Eric Dyer, Elwyn Rhodes Jr., John Mills, Bill White, Andy Vaughan and Shawn Abernathy.
