John R. Horton

"Big John" John Ramsey Horton 8/31/1949 - 4/28/2023 John affectionately known to all as "Big John" was born in Brazil, Indiana to Howard & Jimmie Gandy Horton on August 31, 1949. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dianne Horton, daughter Robin Randle & husband Mark, son Scott Horton & Haven Greer and daughter Shari Harris; grand & great-grandchildren, Keith & Brittany Leerskov, Ryan Leerskov & Courtney Dawson, Addilyn Leerskov, Dawson Leerskov, Cole Harris, Cate Harris & Cetch Harris. He is also survived by brother Warren & wife Robbie along with Matt, Nathan & Natalie Horton, sister-in-law Kathy Reed and nieces Betsy Vickers and Holly Baker. Special cousins Debbie Pryor, Veldean Reynolds, Penny Hart and Nita Torrence. He also leaves behind his beloved Buddy & Hope. Big John was in the National Guard from 1969 - 1976. He was a 3rd generation family member to work for Mobil Oil Pipeline where he worked from 1971 until he retired in 1999. Big John had several enjoyments in life. He had a lifelong love of horses and especially enjoyed team roping & studying bloodlines. He was always up for a round of golf with Dmom and the boys, but his favorite part was the trash talk and constant banter that went along with it. He loved traveling in the travel trailer, taking cross country train rides and seeing the sights of Niagra Falls, Alaska and New York City with Dmom and Robin & Mark. He enjoyed hanging out with his buddies at Carpenter's and later on at the Shell Station for their daily coffee and gossip sessions. Big John was always up for a good meal and spending time with his family. He enjoyed showering his family with unexpected gifts and showing us his love. But his greatest enjoyment came from watching the grandkids in whatever they were involved in and now the great grand babies and their inherited love of all the animals. Big John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4th from 5-8pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Graveside Funeral Service will be held in Marlow, OK on Friday at 1:00 PM at Marlow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rush Herrington Memorial Fund at Austin Bank 2745 South Loop 256 Palestine, Texas 75801.
