James Brown Sr.

James Franklin Brown Sr born 12-3-1941 in Freestone, Texas and left this earth 1-22-2024. He was the oldest of 6 children. He was proceeded in death by his parents Joel Franklin and Ruba Brown, brother Eugene Brown, sister Pat Wilson, and grandson Hagen Richards. He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Brown. He has 2 sons, Jamie Brown (Judy), Michael Brown (Lucinda), 3 stepsons Joey Richards (Sheila), Chad Richards (Teresa), Shane Richards (Jennifer), several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Brothers Joel Brown Jr (Kathy), Billy Brown (Leila) and sister Virginia Vinsonhaler. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years and was stationed in Ft. Ord, California. He retired from Lone Star Gas after 28 yrs. Then owned and operated Affordable Floors and Furniture with his wife Glenda. He also worked as a delivery driver for CVS and P&S Pharmacy. He had an unwavering love for his wife Glenda (also known as Punkin or Meme as he lovingly called her). He would do anything for her. On Feb 2nd they would have been married 34 years. James had a wealth of knowledge. Especially with anything mechanical, home related, vehicles, sports, gardening, and fishing. He was always ready to share knowledge with those who would listen. He wasn't one to sit in the house. He loved to be outdoors tinkering with lawnmowers, working in the yard, feeding fish, or sitting on the back porch sipping coffee with Punkin and watching the deer. James loved playing 42 and was a fierce competitor. He would always outbid you and could pull off a win nearly every time, and occasionally with nothing in his hand. You couldn't take anything personally that he might say to you during a game. Shane has been accused of making up rules and Punkin was supposed to know what he always had in his hand. He loved all his grandkids and had nicknames for all of them. James didn't like to leave home very often, but when he did venture out, it was because he was going to an auction, going to eat fish, watch grandkids at sporting events, or to sit in the car at a dreaded thrift shop waiting on Punkin to finish shopping. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Special thanks to Dr Agarwal, nurses Edie, Carrie and Koti for the excellent care and genuine love and concern for James and Glenda during his many years of cancer treatments. It gives us comfort to know that James is no doubt, in Heaven, praising God and hugging on Hagen. The visitation will be Saturday the 27th at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with service following at 3:00. The burial will be at Kerens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jamie Brown, Michael Brown, Joey Richards, Chad Richards, and Shane Richards.
