Iva Norris

Iva Jordan Norris More than anything you notice the gratefulness. She always felt like she had had the luckiest, most blessed, and most fun life of anyone. Iva Jordan Norris, who passed away early Sunday, always thanked people for everything and exuded a joy in people's contribution to her life. Her highest happiness was in her family and in her church. Those who attended her 90th birthday party were treated to a massive assortment of her artistry. Numerous of her varied oil paintings and quilts were displayed to the enthusiasm of many friends and relatives who had little idea of the scope of her talent, as always offered with love and joy. Iva felt compelled always to be creating something for her loved ones. Whether peanut brittle with her husband, Checkers, for Christmas gifts or the steady streams of handcrafted jewelry, necklaces, and bracelets she assembled at the Heritage Oaks Retirement Village for her many friends, relatives, and surrounding staff. Iva was born on January 18, 1916 in the Drane Community to Ben and Willie Rea Jordan. She was preceded in death by her husband: Checker Norris, parents; sisters, Mrs. Lewin (Opal) Johnson and Mrs. Frank (Bennie) Ware. She and Checkers owned the 2ND Avenue Laundromat. Iva also worked at the Mrs. Baird?s Bread Store, Haggar Slack Factory, and was a reading aide with the C.I.S.D. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Jeannie and Paul Slaughter and son Ted Norris. Grandchildren: Randy and Christy Beamon of Austin, Les and Tracy Slaughter of Winter Haven, Florida, Kyle and Sloane Slaughter of Corsicana, Cheryl Norris of Houston, and Jay Norris of San Diego, California. Ten Great grandchildren. Brother-in-law Wayne Norris and sister-in-law Elaine Jenkins. Family visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Ferman Carpenter officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana. Pallbearers will be Kyle Slaughter, Les Slaughter, Randy Beamon, Jay Norris, Blake Beamon, Josh Slaughter, Jimmy Frank Ware and Dickie Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Sydney Moore, Wayne Norris, Maco Stewart, Jackie Rea and Clifford Barton.
