Gerald Dean Cassady

Gerald Cassady went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2023. Gerald Dean Cassady was born in McCreary County, Kentucky at Flat Rock Ridge on February 18, 1943. As a child, he enjoyed exploring and hunting the creeks, mines, and hills of the Ridge. He lived his youth with his grandparents working in the mines and farming to produce food for the family. He left the farm in the early 1960’s to finish high school, and he got a job in an aluminum foundry in Sidney, Ohio. He graduated from Fairlawn High School in 1964 and married Sharon Griffen. They had 2 sons: Jeffery Scott and Timothy Dean. In 1973, he remarried Elonda Hargrave. They had one daughter, Malissa Dawn. In 1978, Gerald relocated his family to Corsicana, Texas, where he remained the rest of his life. Though he enjoyed visiting the hills and waterfalls of Kentucky and his relatives, he loved living in Texas with his family. Gerald was an avid deer hunter, which took him on many adventures. He thrived in the woods, taking in the beauty of the outdoors. He retired from Elk Roofing Company in Ennis, TX, after 30+ years of working as an industrial mechanic. Gerald was a member of Northside Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his father Brit Casada and his mother Opal Bedford along with his brother Brit Cassada and sister Wanda Cassady. He is survived by his wife Elonda Cassady and their daughter Malissa Henrie and son in law Shane, granddaughters Cara, Ella, Lucy and Anna Kate of Plano, TX. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Ann Carver and two granddaughters Olivia and Sophia of Phoenix, AZ, along with his son, Tim Emrick, residing in Charlotte, SC, and his son Jeff Emrick and wife Julia and grandson Jake, and granddaughter Jordi Fill with husband Dan and two great grandchildren Josie and Oliver, living in Ohio. He is also survived by his brother David Cassada in East Texas, his sisters Brenda Boggs and husband Ron, Ollie Anthony and husband Bob, Louise Clinehans and husband Kurt, and Wilma Parsons husband Charles all residing in Ohio. Gerald had many nieces and nephews, including David Cassada, which he enjoyed much of life with. We are grateful for the staff of Twilight nursing home that helped in his care, and we are thankful for the wonderful people of Mercy Hospice that cared for Gerald in the last few months of his life. Visitation will be Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton Beeman Cemetery.
