Ethel (Gran)

Ethel Delores Key ?Gran?, 77, resident of Blooming Grove and formerly of Austin went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 21, 2007 in Corsicana. She was born on March 22, 1930 to Frank Thurman and Ethel Ligon Thurman in Luling, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 ? 8:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at New Beginning Family Fellowship Church in Blooming Grove. Burial will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Luling City Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Connally officiating. Dodie was was born and raised in Luling. After High School she moved to Austin and married Hastings Sullivan Key Jr. on May 5, 1950. When H.S. was called back into the Air Force, she served with the family in Turkey, Germany, Japan, and back to Austin in 1971. She worked for the Austin Independent School District and retired after 20 years. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 35 years where she was very dedicated and loved. She volunteered at the Lady Bird Johnson Foundation and worked at the Nursing Practitioners Association. She moved to Blooming Grove after over 30 years in Austin. She attended many Lions Football and Baseball games watching her grandsons play and became a Lion fan. Gran was a member of New Beginnings Family Fellowship Church in Blooming Grove. Gran served her Lord, husband, family, and community with much love and kindness. She loved to work in her flower gardens and having all the teenagers hang out at the house and pool. She was preceded in death by her husband H.S. Key, mother and father Ethel and Frank Thurman, brothers Clifton Thurman and Sonny Thurman, sisters Vivian Goodman, Evelyne Franks, and Matlyn Roye. Survivors include her son Jim Key and wife Sharon of Austin. Daughter Jane Connally and husband Bryan of Blooming Grove. Grandchildren Parker and Garrett Connally, Christy and Van Hilderbrand of Austin, Misty and Scott Green of Houston, Brandy Key of Houston. Nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her loving and kind ways and gentle spirit will be greatly missed.
