Dorothy Hodge

Dorothy Fay Morris Hodge, loving wife, mother and devoted child of God, went to be with her Lord on September 28, 2023, at the age of 94. She and her husband James Edgar Hodge were residents of Corsicana, Texas. She was born Dorothy Fay Morris to Albert Christopher Morris and Flossie Anton Purcell Morris on August 15, 1929, in Dallas, Texas Dorothy graduated from Midlothian High School as valedictorian of her class. After high school she attended North Texas State College where she met James. They were married in Midlothian, Texas on June 17, 1948. In 1960 they moved with their daughters to Athens, Georgia where James completed his education. She and James returned to Texas and settled in Denton for a short time, finally settling the family in San Angelo where they raised their daughters and remained until retirement. During this time, she worked as a school secretary. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Hodge, sisters Ruth Darr and Marie Sledge and grandson Ryan Cook. She is survived by her daughters Patti Cook (Mark) and Gina Harrell (Craig), granddaughter Cara Miller (Jarad), grandsons James Harrell (Sarah), Wade Harrell (Jade), Craig Harrell Jr., as well as brother Albert C. Morris Jr. (Billie) and sister Joyce Bills. Dorothy has six great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Dorothy loved and nurtured her family and took great interest in each person. She loved God and faithfully taught the Bible to her Sunday School Classes over the years. She shared her love for music by singing in the church choir, most recently at First Baptist Church in Corsicana where she and James attended. She loved beauty and flowers and served as president of the Better Gardens Club in Corsicana from 2000-2002. She was also a member of the Kinsloe House. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. There will be a celebration of her life 10:00am Thursday, October 5th at the First Baptist Church of Corsicana with Dr. Danny Reeves officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
