Doris Patrick

Doris Fay Ivy Patrick, born in the Mt. Zion Community located near Fairfield, Texas on May 9, 1926. She was the daughter of Johnie James Ivy and Ruby Irma Harrison. She had one brother, J. Bradford Ivy of Fairfield. She graduated in 1942 from Fairfield High School with Honors and a Scholarship in Music. She attended Texas Womens University at Denton, and graduated with Honors at age 18 in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She began her teaching career in Streetman where her first assignment was to teach 35 students of sixth and seventh grades, some of which were almost as old as she was. She served as First Baptist Church of Streetman pianist from 1945 thru 1949 at which time the Streetman School moved to Fairfield. Doris began her teaching career in Fairfield in the fall of 1949 where she taught the third grade. In the meantime she served as the pianist for the Calvary Baptist Church from 1949-1961. Doris received her Masters of Education degree with honors from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville in 1957. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education. In 1961, Doris married Arthur N.S. Patrick, Jr, a Richland banker and rancher. In 1966, Doris began teaching second grade in the Lee Elementary School in Corsicana where at the end of the school year 1970, she was honored as Teacher of the Year by the Corsicana Independent School District. In 1972, Doris and Arthur adopted their daughter Ann Susan Patrick Littrell who is married to Lee Edward Littrell of Corsicana. Doris saw her family grow in numbers with the birth of granddaughter Selena Nan Littrell and grandson Lee Edward Littrell, Jr. Doris's granddaughter Selena and her husband Marshall Mathis, Jr have this month presented Doris with two great granddaughters. She married Albert Ruyle on February 8, 2013. Doris Ivy Patrick has gently and kindly touched the lives of literately thousands of young children through her 34 year teaching career. Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield. Service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel, Fairfield. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery.
