David Wayne Butler

David Wayne Butler, 71 years old, passed from his earthly life, with his wife by his side, on September 21, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of just shy of 47 years; sons: Craig McAdams and wife, Misty, of Elkhart; and Jeremy Butler of Fairfield. Daughter-in-love Roxanne Butler. Also survived by siblings: Carolyn Miller, Diana Ruiz of Arizona, Vickie Butler of Nevada, Tim Butler of Robinson, Amber McCray of the Houston area, and Tyrone Butler and wife Kim of Hewitt. He is also survived by, and proud PawPaw of, six grandchildren that he loved dearly: Larami Quick and husband Trevor; Colby McAdams and wife Hannah; Ledia Butler, Grayson Butler, Hadley Butler, Beckett Butler; and five great-grandchildren: Tad, Hagen, Tripp, Maggie, and Tully. He was born to Raimey David Butler and Mary Butler on February 2, 1952, in Chandler, Arizona. He married his love, Joyce McAdams Butler, on December 18, 1976, in Dallas, Texas. He and Joyce have been married just shy of 47 years. He served in the United States Army, which took him to many places including Washington State, where his son Jeremy was born; Alaska; and Germany. He worked for the Texas Youth Commission for many years in Crockett, Fairfield, and Corsicana. He was often found in his father-in-law’s shop or on his work crew where he helped with construction for over 10 years. He was also a farrier. He was taught woodworking skills by the best - his father-in-law, George McAdams - and he could do anything he set his mind to. He hand-made knives, axes, hunting bows, carts, and all kinds of tools and sold them at tradeshows or gave them to loved ones. He was a true craftsman. Most recently, he was proud to serve the City of Fairfield as the Animal Control Officer where he wrangled dogs, skunks, and everything in between. He also assisted Jess Adkins in his practice. When he wasn’t building, making, or catching animals, he loved to be outdoors where he hunted, fished, explored, and enjoyed wildlife and the great outdoors in general. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and stepmother Simone Butler. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Monday September 25, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield.
