Dana Elliott Bonner

Dana Bonner, 84, of Corsicana, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her daughters, on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. She was born on November 25, 1926 to Frank and Lena Arnett in Corsicana. After graduating from Corsicana High School in 1943, Dana was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1945 she married Nathan Elliott in Corsicana. To this union three daughters were born. The family lived in Carthage and Grapeland where many lifelong friendships were made. Nathan passed away in 1963 and Dana returned to Corsicana with her young daughters and later continued her employment with Southwestern Bell. In 1975, she married Lowell Bonner. After their retirement they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. As Lowell's health began to fail, she cared for him until his death in 2007. Dana was affectionally know as "Memaw". She was a talented seamstress and homemaker and enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers. Her home was always a gathering place for friends and family. She was a longtime member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Nathan Elliott and second husband, Lowell Bonner; sister, Oleta Raney; brother, James Arnett and granddaughter Laurie Pillans Horn. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Carolyn and Gary M. Pillans of Corsicana; daughter, Georgia Elliott of Corsicana; daughter, Tina Carroll of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Cindy Pillans Pair, Brian Pillans and wife Danielle all of Corsicana, Leslie Carroll, Natalie Carroll and Bradie Carroll of Waco; great grandchildren, Holly, Brooke, Nate, Drew and Riley Pair; Ryan and Hunter Pillans, Addison Burk Pillans all of Corsicana; Hannah Carroll and Landon Oliver of Waco and Ashley Horn and Tommy Horn of Corsicana; sister and best friend, Joann Tomlin of Corsicana, brother and sister in law, Roy and Jeanie Arnett of Corsicana, sister in laws, Frances Perry of Corsicana and Roberta Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; special cousins, Doris Bonner, Norma Watkins, Margaret Arnett, Sandra Johnson and Linda Prewitt; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to caregiver and friend Regina Brookins, Angels At Home and Hospice of Cedar Lake. Visitation will be 6-8pm Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 11am Friday, March 18, 2011 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Carpenter of Saint Lukes United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Benny Pillans, James Gary Pillans, Ken Authier, Bob McConnell, David Fondren and Michael Whisenant.
